>Nine adult learners and learning groups from Caerphilly county borough were nominated for this year's Inspire! Adult Learners Awards, organised by NIACE Dysgu Cymru as part of Adult Learners' Week.
The overall regional winner was Jayne Evans who attends The College Ystrad Mynach. The judges said it was her personal journey, her capacity to inspire others and the desire to progress in her learning, which won her the award.
Tutor, Susan Edwards, who nominated her, describes Jayne as a true inspiration to others. "Jayne's enthusiasm is an inspiration to her fellow learners. She has helped to create a bubbly, lively and hard-working basic skills class where progression is exciting and success great."
Jayne said, "Adult Learning has changed my life because it has made me a more confident person who is not afraid to have a go at things. Now I will try things I wouldn't have tried before and succeed because I now know I am capable of doing it."
Other learning groups and individuals who were nominated for the awards are Welsh learner Sheila Heath and IT learner Ann Sparham, who both attend Heolddu Adult Education Centre, Gordon Macinnis, Paul Watkins and Brian Skeoch of Ystrad Mynach, who all have completed Open College Network qualifications provided by Craegmoor Healthcare, Pontllanfraith Learners' computer class, Fochriw Community Group's card design class and Aber Valley Community First Partnership.
