    05 December 2007

A book about the history of two Welsh villages has been launched at Bedwas Library.

‘Look back at Old Bedwas and Trethomas’, Volume 1, was launched by Bedwas and Trethomas Local Historical Society last week (Thursday 29th November). The book, which was compiled by History Society members Derrick Jones, Tony Jukes and Gordon Maslen, is a collection of old photographs including sections on local scenes, mining, industry, education, sport, recreation and religion.

Fifty-some guests were invited to the event, amongst these were Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Harry Andrews, CCBC’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr J.R. Davies, Jeff Cuthbert AM, and Bedwas Trethomas and Machen Community Council Chairman, Dennis Barry.

Deputy Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr J. R. Davies said, “It is fantastic to finally see a book printed about Bedwas and Trethomas. The villages have a remarkable history and what better way to revisit the good old times than through a collection of photographs. I wish the book every success and look forward to a follow-up.”

The hardback (£14.99) will be on sale at Bedwas and Caerphilly libraries and local shops from Friday 30th November.
