>A student from Lewis School, Pengam has scooped the top award at this year's Caerphilly County Borough Schools' Young Contemporary Musician of the Year competition.
Calum Orr was crowned Contemporary Young Musician of the Year at Caerphilly Music Service on Saturday 27th November 2010. Calum wowed the judges with his performance on his electric guitar.
Pupils from Lewis School, Pengam took the top three titles on offer at the event. Joel Price was awarded the title of Caerphilly County Borough Schools' Young Contemporary Singer of the Year 2010 and Daniel Hulett was announced as Caerphilly County Borough Schools' Young Contemporary Composer of the Year 2010 after submitting a composition called 'Colour Coded'.
In total there were 153 entries from schools across the Caerphilly County Borough this year.
The Mayor of Caerphilly CBC, Cllr James Fussell, presented the trophies and AXMusic provided the adjudicators.
The event was organised by Caerphilly Music Service, in Association with AXMusic, under the direction of Dr Keith Ellerington, Principal Officer for Music.
