Young people from across the Caerphilly county borough and Gwent Police have joined forces in an attempt to tackle anti social behaviour.
A group of fourteen young people, aged between 11 and 16, who are members of the Van Youth Sub Group, have recently met with Gwent Police officers in an attempt to create an even safer living environment.
The partnership between the youths and police is part of the well-established PACT process, Partnerships and Communities Together. PACT Youth is a group formed and led by Caerphilly County Borough Council's Senior Youth Participation Worker, Andrew Griffiths, along with the Bedwas Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The group will meet on a four monthly basis, to discuss issues of concern in the Lansbury Park, Mornington Meadows, Porset Park and Castle View areas of the town.
Issues such as anti social behaviour, litter, graffiti and dog fouling are just some of the areas the group wish to concentrate on helping to tackle. Following the first meeting, members of the Bedwas Neighbourhood Policing Team will update the group on progress in the targeted areas.
Mike Prew, Councillor and Youth Champion said, "I think this is a great opportunity for the young people of the Caerphilly county borough to work in partnership with the local neighbourhood policing team, building positive relationships to create a better and even safer environment to live in."
Anthony Moore, PCSO for Bedwas Neighbourhood Policing Team said, "We are continually inventing new methods of improving engagement with the local young people.
The Youth PACT process is just one of a number of initiatives that we have instigated during the past twelve months. We believe that by working with young people and helping them improve the area in which they live, it is a positive step towards building a life long partnership with the youth within our community."
