>A pupil from Lewis School Pengam has become a promising table tennis star after his talent was spotted through a special sporting initiative.
Caerphilly County Borough Council's '5 x 60' activity scheme unlocks hidden talents and David Spiller, a year 8 pupil from Lewis School, is an excellent example of the success of the programme.
David took part in a table tennis '5 x 60' activity session and has now been selected to represent Bargoed and District Club on a competitive level.
Club coach Haydn Ashcroft was impressed with David's natural ability for the sport and could see the potential for a future champion. David took part in the U13's Dragon Table Tennis tournament on Saturday 15th November, and was successful in the group stages but narrowly missed out on the top spot by just two points.
David will remain positive and carry on with his training throughout the year to hopefully take the competition by storm next year.
