Pupils from the Caerphilly county borough have made a big splash at a special swimming gala for disabled youngsters.

Newbridge Leisure Centre hosted the second 'Disability Swimming Gala' for schools within the Caerphilly county borough and Newport areas.

The gala involved over 50 students accompanied by volunteers and the organisers from Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sports Development Team and Trinity Fields Special School.

The three schools that took part were St Cenydd Comprehensive, Trinity Fields and Maes Ebbw with a variety of children from all ages. The gala comes as a direct result of the success of the disability swimming lessons running throughout the 5 swimming pools within the Caerphilly county borough.

All pupils received a medal for participation and are looking forward to next year's competition.

Cllr Phil Bevan, Cabinet Member for Education and Leisure said, "It's fantastic to see so many young people taking part in physical activity and the rise in participation in disability sport in particular has been a fantastic achievement for the CCBC's Sports Development team."
