Unsightly graffiti found on bus stops, walls, play areas and other buildings across Caerphilly County Borough is being tackled as part of a clean-up initiative by the Safer Caerphilly County Borough Community Safety Partnership.
Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government's Safer Communities Fund, the scheme enables partner organisations to work effectively together to solve the problem of graffiti across the county borough.
The scheme is primarily being coordinated by Caerphilly County Borough Council and is working in partnership with the National Probation Service whose graffiti removal team arrange a clean-up schedule.
Gwent Probation Service organise teams of offenders who are undertaking Community Punishment Orders to clean up the areas listed in the schedule. In addition to residents reporting such graffiti and it being discovered by patrolling Community Safety Wardens (employed by CCBC), local councillors also help by identifying areas in their wards that require graffiti removal and these are then included on the schedule.
Caerphilly County Borough Councils cabinet member for the environment, Cllr David Poole said, "Working in partnership enables the sharing of resources which makes it easier for all concerned to tackle issues such as graffiti."
He continues, adding, "Offenders can gain various skills from cleaning the graffiti and the public get a cleaner environment to live and work in."
