Caerphilly County Borough Council's Catering Team has been recognised by the 'Educatering Excellence Awards' panel for their innovative school meals marketing campaign, and have been shortlisted for the prestigious Marketing Award.

The service that caters for hundreds of children and young people every day, refreshed the service that they offered by training existing staff to introduce themed days, and organised promotional activities to meet the needs of the schools.

Cllr. Phil Bevan, Cabinet Member for Education, Leisure and Lifelong Learning said, "It is an important job ensuring the young people of this county borough are well educated and a nutritious meal in the middle of a school day is a very important part of that".

He continued, "The Catering team are extremely dedicated and their fantastic efforts have managed to substantially increase school meal uptake over the past year, which means that even more children and young people are enjoying the benefits of a healthier lunch."

The Comprehensive Schools have also had the benefit of the 'Points Mean Prizes' healthy food incentive scheme. The scheme offers points to those young people who choose healthier food options, the points can be exchanged for prizes at the end of the school term.
