>The Winding House in New Tredegar is delighted to be taking part in this year's " Open Doors, European Heritage Days in Wales." The event, run by the Civic Trust for Wales, is Wales' largest celebration of architecture and heritage.
As part of the event, the Museum will be running its historic winding engine on Saturday 25th September. This magnificent Victorian engine is the centre-piece of the new museum, built on the site of the former Elliot Colliery. The engine was used to lower and lift the cages which transported miners and the coal they dug from the pit below.
The engine is now maintained by a group of enthusiastic Volunteers, who also run it for members of the public on special event days.
Come along on 25th September and see the historic winding engine in action – and find out more from the Volunteers caring for it!
The engine will run at 12pm and 3pm and admission is FREE!
