Children in two Aberbargoed primary schools have been taking part in a special project to promote and protect local wildlife.
Caerphilly county borough council's Countryside Service has been working with Aberbargoed Primary School and Ysgol Bro Sannan as part of the John Muir award scheme.
The award is an educational initiative of the John Muir Trust and encourages participants to enjoy the outdoors, get to know more about nature and wild places and do something to look after them.
Over the summer term pupils at both schools have been visiting a local wildlife area known as Aberbargoed Grasslands. They have discovered and explored the site and have shared their experiences with each other and the rest of their school.
The children at Aberbargoed Primary have created a wildlife area within the school grounds with features such as stone banks, log piles and bird boxes and it is hoped that other features can be added in the future.
Ysgol Bro Sannan helped to clear litter and rubbish from Aberbargoed Grasslands in order to improve the site for visitors and create better habitat conditions for wildlife.
A special presentation ceremony took place at Aberbargoed Primary last week and it is anticipated that Ysgol Bro Sannan will complete their scheme early in the new school term.
