A film produced by local Caerphilly youngsters is to be showcased as part of the First Films Festival later this month.
The film 'My Dead Love', which was managed by Caerphilly County Borough Council's Arts Development Service and developed by local youngsters, has been entered into the First Films Project awards, and will be showcased at the Riverfront in Newport on Thursday 20th October.
Young people involved in the project took part in a twelve-week film course, and were responsible for all elements of the film making, writing, devising, producing, shooting and editing.
Facilitated by Zoom Cymru, the film involved young people from Blackwood, Pontllanfraith, Risca and Oakdale Comprehensive Schools.
The project formed part of a pilot project as part of Caerphilly county borough's contribution to the 2012 Cultural Olympiad – the Awen Project. The Awen Project is inspired by Caerphilly Castle and is part of Cauldrons and Furnaces, one of the key projects of The Power of the Flame- Cultural Olympiad in Wales.
Funded by Caerphilly County Borough Council's Arts Development Service, MAT (More Able and Talented) Programme and the Film Agency for Wales, the film will also be screened at the Zoom Cymru Film Festival in the spring 2012.
First Films Awards and screenings were created in 2007 to recognise the creativity and hard work of young film makers in Newport and the surrounding areas. Founded by Newport Arts Development to encourage young people into film making, the event showcases films made by young people with a week-long celebration of film, workshops and live events.
Caerphilly's Arts Development Service are hoping to start an ongoing project for Caerphilly county borough youngsters – Ffilm Awen Film will hold regular film education workshops, with the opportunity to attend film making workshops, and technical and creative sessions.
