Pupils and staff at Ysgol Ifor Bach get cooking

Pupils and teachers at Ysgol Ifor Bach in Senghenydd were thrilled when a special 'Cooking Bus' pulled up at the school.

The Cooking Bus is a specially adapted vehicle which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and run by the Focus on Food Campaign, the leading organisation to support the teaching of cooking in schools across the UK.

The children had an opportunity to venture on to the bus and cook up some nutritious meals. The bus also offered a community session to give parents an opportunity to experience the lessons and learn some valuable cooking techniques.

Local mum Lisa Griffiths said, "It's a really good idea. My children came home raving about the bus and the food they had cooked. It demonstrated how healthy eating can be fun and for us as parents how quick it can actually be."

Tracy Addictott, deputy head teacher said, "We were all impressed with the facilities and the organisation of the sessions on the bus. Every class cooked and learned about different types of foods. The ideas and resources they have provided us with as teachers has been fantastic, it has shown us how with a bowl of ingredients and a spoon we can teach the children a number of cross curricular subjects."
