Caerphilly town centre had an amazing weekend as more than 10,000 visitors from near and far descended on the town to enjoy the Medieval Christmas Fayre.
On Saturday and Sunday visitors flooded the town to see over 150 traders adorning the castle walls and town centre as well as a feast of entertainment and family fun.
Saturday was a fantastic day, cold but dry, as shoppers came out in their droves. Sunday was a little less friendly on the weather front, but still visitors braved the rain to see the plentiful entertainment on offer.
Cllr Ron Davies, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning said, "I am delighted that this festive programme of events have proven so popular once again this year. Events such as this, in addition to helping give traders a boost during this crucial trading period, really help put Caerphilly county borough on the map as a key tourist destination with something to offer all the family".
The event was held in the town centre and Caerphilly Castle, with the main high street being closed to traffic. Medieval beggars attempted to sneak a kiss from passers by, fire jugglers amazed the crowds and a roller skating robin may have whizzed past as visitors to the town soaked up the atmosphere.
The event had a real Christmas feel to it with the smells of mulled wine, hog roasts and cooking sausages filling the air. The ambience was excellent, as visitors browsed the stalls, filled the shops and cafes and relaxed in the streets.
Coaches from Gloucester, Pembrokeshire and Weston Super Mare, to name but a few, visited the event bringing visitors into the town centre to provide that extra boost for traders and local and independent retailers.
A trader with the continental market commented on how 'it really has developed into a fantastic Christmas Market for Caerphilly town".
It really was a memorable event as we approach the end of another year, providing retailers in the town with that additional boost needed during these hard financial times.
