Leighton Andrews AM, Minister for Education and Skills, opened an impressive new primary school in Caerphilly recently.
The Minister joined Cabinet Member Cllr Phil Bevan, the Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council Cllr Allan Pritchard and other special guests at a school assembly before enjoying a tour of the new building.
The school, which has 14 classrooms, a nursery and facilities for children with special educational needs, also features a brand new Integrated Children's Centre (ICC) on land adjacent to the school.
This Centre provides facilities for pre-school children, as well as learning opportunities for adults.
Cllr Phil Bevan, CCBC Cabinet Member for Education, Leisure and Lifelong Learning said, "This brand new replacement school and Integrated Children's Centre is helping to provide a real improvement in the teaching and learning environment for children and adults like".
This project, totalling more than £5million, was mainly funded thanks to a Welsh Government grant.
St James Primary School was formed in September 2005 by the amalgamation of Lansbury Park Infant and Junior Schools. They currently have 347 pupils on the roll (including morning and afternoon nursery). The school was awarded 6 grade 1's and 1 grade 2 by Estyn inspectors in February 2009.
