Rob Hartshorn is the new Head of Public Protection at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Rob Hartshorn is the new Head of Public Protection at Caerphilly County Borough Council. He has responsibility for a number of teams including Trading Standards, Licensing and Environmental Health, as well as Community Safety – these teams work together to protect and promote the well being and safety of our communities.

The council operates and monitors an extensive network of over 150 CCTV cameras throughout the borough, offering reassurance to members of the public and acting as a deterrent to possible criminal or anti-social activity.

The council also has a team of 12 Community Safety Wardens, whose reassuring high visibility presence throughout the borough helps to deter crime and anti-social behaviour also.

On his appointment, one of the first things Rob did was to accompany one of the Community Safety Wardens, Denzil Lawrence on a routine patrol.

Rob says, "I was able to see first hand the excellent work being done by our wardens throughout the borough, and how they are able to offer practical advice and solutions to community safety issues on people's doorsteps and out in the community."

Rob continues, "We are central to the success of the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership, and I have already seen some fine examples of extensive joint working on issues that are important to our communities, in particular anti-social behaviour, environmental concerns and reducing the impact of alcohol misuse.

I hope that I can build upon existing foundations with our partners to make a real difference to issues that are of concern to our residents."
