Pupils from Risca Comprehensive School have been getting inspired to take part in sport – thanks to a motivational mentoring session from an international rugby player!
As part of Sky Sports 'Living for Sport' initiative, which uses sport to motivate and inspire 11-16 year olds, South African rugby international Thinus Delport came along to Risca Comprehensive School recently, where he delivered a powerful presentation to 10 pupils who are currently not involved in any sport.
Thinus spoke about his childhood, his background and how he made it as a rugby union international. His inspirational presentation really engaged the pupils, and has inspired them to take part in sport and physical activities during and after school.
One pupil said, "Thinus really inspired me and I found his rugby background really interesting".
After the presentation, pupils were asked to come up with a list of the sports they would like to take part in – over the next five weeks, some of these sports will be delivered at the school during a Thursday lunchtime.
Jon Hughes, Sport Caerphilly School Sports Coordinator and Risca Comprehensive School's PE department signed the school up for the free initiative, and as a result will look to get 10 non-active pupils involved in physical activity.
This initiative aims to build confidence and self esteem and promote health and wellbeing.
