Following on from the success of Caerphilly Council’s Christmas Market and Caerphilly Castle’s Medieval Market in 2006, Caerphilly’s Tourism Department and CADW are joining forces to provide Caerphilly Town Centre with a spectacular Christmas and Medieval Market on 8th and 9th December 2007.
With around 100 stalls being present throughout the event site, which incorporates Caerphilly Castle, The Twyn Community Centre, Twyn Car Park, Caerphilly Visitor Centre and Castle Court Shopping Centre, the event is sure to have something for everyone and is set to be South Wales’ Biggest ever modern day Medieval and Christmas Market. A Farmers Market, Continental Market, Medieval Market along with general food producers and crafters will all be in attendance.
If you’re looking for an unusual gift or some tasty treats for those winter nights sat by the Christmas tree, then look no further than the Caerphilly Medieval Market. The town centre and Castle Court shopping Centre are both open for trading making Caerphilly a shopper’s paradise on this weekend.
This year there will be a special appearance from Welsh television’s top chef Angela Gray. A cookery demonstration programme will be taking place below Caerphilly Visitor Centres Gift Shop, with medieval recipes being conjured up and an opportunity for visitors to ask this top chef about her culinary skills. Angela is a well known local chef and runs a cookery school in Cardiff and tours the world giving cooking demonstrations. A local Chef from Sergeants restaurant in Caerphilly will also be cooking up some mouth watering welsh dishes.
A Santa’s grotto, walkabout entertainment, brass bands, children’s workshops, funfair rides, medieval puppet shows and medieval re enactment are just some of the other activities being planned for this weekend.
The event opens at 9:00am and closes at 5:00pm on both days in the town centre. The Castle entertainment varies slightly opening from 9:30am - 6.00 pm on Saturday and 11:00am - 4:00pm on Sunday. During both days some activities and events are ongoing whilst others have scheduled times.
Traffic Information
The Twyn Road between Market Street and Cardiff road will be closed for the duration of the event.
Parking for the event is at the normal car parks within the town centre, except for the Twyn Car Park, which is closed for the event. A park and ride service will be in operation from St Illan School on Pontygwindy Road. (Please note that the park and ride will not be in operation between 12:00pm and 12:30pm).
