    Big Daddy vs Giant Haystacks

On Wednesday 9th May, the Foundry Theatre Group bring their fantastically funny hit show Big Daddy vs.Giant Haystacks to Blackwood Miners' Institute.

They were the larger than life grunt and groaners who divided the nation. Heavyweight wrestlers Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks (a.k.a. Shirley Crabtree and Martin Ruane), collided in the ring like two beached whales, watched by millions of Britons, from 1976 to 1988 on Saturday afternoon television.

And now they're back from beyond the grave…

The play, by Brian Mitchell and Joseph Nixon, brings back to life the story of these two sporting giants and their friendly rivalry. Ross Gurney-Randall plays Big Daddy and David Mounfield takes on the role of his nemesis, but the duo also play Beatle Paul McCartney (who hired Big Daddy for his movie Give My Regards To Broad Street), Tiswas presenter Chris Tarrant, crooner Frank Sinatra, Princess Margaret and BBC Director-General Greg Dyke.

After attending the first night of Big Daddy vs. Giant Haystacks at the Square Chapel, Halifax. Jane Crabtree, Shirley Crabtree's daughter, took the cast for a drink in a nearby bar to show her gratitude for such an excellent performance.

"I loved it...this is the story the people should see about British Wrestling. Although my Dad preferred Egg Custards, not Custard Creams. The rest is about right! Made me laugh and cry" Jane Said.

Big Daddy Vs. Giant Haystacks is at Blackwood Miner's Institute on Wednesday 9th May at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01495 227206 or online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com. For more information on the production please visit www.foundrygroup.co.uk
