Caerphilly County Borough high streets are bursting with Independent retailers, attracting hundreds of shoppers each year into the area. Independent retailers are key to keeping vibrant, bustling town centres that offer something different for residents and visitors alike.

Kate Padfield owns The Cooks Cupboard, a fledgling independent business in Blackwood town centre offering a speciality shop to the talented cooks and cake bakers in the area, she said, "Usually owners have opened a business because they have a passion for the field themselves, this means they can offer unique shops, with friendly and knowledgeable service. With support from local customers Independent retailers can help keep local towns alive."

This July 4th a national campaign has been launched by Skillsmart Retail to celebrate the UK's Independent retailers. To support this wonderful celebration, which encourages people to shop at independent retailers, a selection of retailers across the borough are offering special offers and discounts running between July 2nd-7th.

Cllr. Ken James, Caerphilly CBC Cabinet member for Regeneration encouraged residents to shop locally, "As customers we can shape the future of high streets, where we spend our money determines which shops stay open and which close, the message is clear - if we value our independent retailers we need to use them."
