During the summer holidays many residents will make extra car journeys as they take the opportunity to enjoy quality family time. Caerphilly County Borough Council's Trading Standards officers will be on hand to ensure the safety of children while they travel.
Officers will be at Tesco, Ystrad Mynach on Friday 10th August between 9.30am and 4pm offering free safety checks on child car seats and giving out free child activity packs that include safety information for parents.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness about the lack of protection provided by an unsuitable or badly fitted car seat, and how, with just a little extra knowledge, parents can ensure the future safety of their children while they travel. Similar events last year identified that 72% of the seats checked were incorrectly fitted, or were unsuitable for either the child or the motor vehicle. At a recent event this year only 35% of child car seats passed the check with no adjustments!
If you have any queries on the event or on the safety of child car seats, please do not hesitate to contact Trading Standards on 01495 235291.
