This year's Big Cheese Festival in Caerphilly was a fantastic success once again this year, as crowds flocked to the site in their thousands to enjoy the fun in the sun!

As the temperature soared, so did visitor numbers, with event organisers estimating that at least 80,000 people visited the Big Cheese festival over the weekend.

In the weeks leading up to the Big Cheese festival, there were also a massive 75,000 hits on Caerphilly County Borough Council's Big Cheese website.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Harry Andrews said, "The Big Cheese festival has become one of the most popular events in Wales and has contributed greatly to helping put Caerphilly county borough on the map as a key tourism destination".

He continued, "An lot of hard work goes into organising an event of this magnitude and I would like to thank the organisers and our sponsors for their continued support – it really is very much appreciated. I would also like to thank all the local people who once again turned out to make this year's Big Cheese such a success".

The Big Cheese is the highlight of Caerphilly County Borough Council's summer events programme and offers fun for all the family.

The action kicked off on Friday evening with the annual Great Cheese race, which saw 28 teams battle it out to be crowned champions. After a hard fought contest, Caerphilly Swim Squad was announced as the winners of the Junior Contest and the Swamp Donkeys (Leisure Centre staff) were crowned winners of the Adult Contest.

Following the Great Cheese race was the  Parade of Nations, which saw more than 150 people from across the globe don their country's national dress and parade through Caerphilly town and onto the Big Cheese site, with a spectacular fireworks display over Caerphilly Castle concluding proceedings.

Saturday and Sunday saw the fun continue with an extravaganza of street entertainers, living history encampments, music, falconry, craft stalls, a huge funfair boasting a range of white-knuckle rides, and much more!

Visitors came from far and wide to experience a taste of the Big Cheese and soak up the unique atmosphere at this fantastic family event.
