This Friday, with just 15 days to go till the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Games, St Cenydd Comprehensive School will hold its very own mini Olympics!
The event is designed to inspire pupils throughout the school to try out non-traditional Olympic sports such as Archery, Blind football, Taekwondo, Tennis, Curling, Cycling and many more.
The event has been organised by Young Ambassador Adistar pupils who applied for funding through the Physical Education School Sport (PESS) consortium and were awarded £500 to organise such an event.
Already this has been a great experience for the pupils by giving them an opportunity to showcase their skills and initiative through planning the event from start to finish and building a relationship with staff and pupils within the school itself.
National Governing Bodies will deliver some activities along with Sport Caerphilly Officers and volunteers who will help with the running of the day.
Cllr. Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education said, "This is a truly pupil lead initiative. It is wonderful to see the Olympic spirit inspiring young ambassadors who are in turn inspiring their peers."
Mr Kilcoyne, Head Teacher at St Cenydd School said, "We are really looking forward to the event, it's a great chance for all our pupils to be inspired by the London 2012 games and I am really proud of the pupils who have planned and organised this from the very beginning."
