At the first meeting of CCBC's Cabinet since the Local Elections, councillors agreed to allocate £400,000 for the maintenance of community assets.

The funding will be used on a wide range of schemes to help improve our towns and villages such as tackling vandalism, repairing benches, replacement of damaged street furniture, landscaping and other small items of maintenance work.

Cllr. David Poole, the new Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said, "This allocation of funding reflects the ambitions of the council to keep the county borough clean and attractive and to support local communities in their efforts to maintain and enhance their local area. The works will help make a big difference and the resulting improvements far outweigh the actual money spent."

The funding will come from the Welsh Government Deprivation Grant, and will be used on many projects to improve the look and feel of the streets throughout the borough.

£100,000 of the allocated funding will be used by a special 'Community Response Team' to attend to items that are not normally picked up in other mainstream budgets, for example the replacement of vandalised street furniture.

Ongoing improvement projects have already helped the Caerphilly County Borough become a more attractive place for and this will be enhanced by new investment to improve the main entrance points to key attractions in the area.

Funds will also be assigned to Community Partnership projects, and the maintenance of community initiated schemes. This will help to take small projects forward and empower local communities.

Funding has also been allocated to support action to resolve on-going problems encountered in rural areas across the borough – so called Landscape Crimes.

"All these projects will help us create an attractive, well-kept county borough and enhance a sense of community pride", added Cllr Poole.
