Carers Week at New Cottage Dance Centre, Ystrad Mynach

A special event hosted by Caerphilly CBC's Social Services Team marking Carers Week attracted over 60 carers last Friday (22nd June).

The awareness raising event, which took place at the New Cottage Dance Centre, Ystrad Mynach, celebrated the unpaid carers in our area who provide care and support to a partner, child, relative, parent, friend or neighbour who would not be able to manage without their help.

Cllr Gaynor Oliver, Mayor of Caerphilly county borough council, attended the event and was moved by a number of the stories she heard. She commented, "A number of carers were not aware of the support they can receive from Social Services, simply because they do not consider themselves to be a carer. These selfless people care for their loved ones, not for recognition, but because of the concern and compassion they feel. I hope that awareness raising events such as this will encourage those unpaid carers to come forward and receive the support they deserve."

Carers who attended the event were given information on the support they can receive, and were treated to beauty therapies and craft workshops.

If you are a carer and would like to find out more about the support you can receive, call the Carers Support Worker on 01443 864604 or email carers@caerphilly.gov.uk.
