Representatives from the private, public and voluntary sectors across the Caerphilly county borough joined together recently at a special conference held at Llancaiach Fawr.
The Caerphilly Local Service Board's 'Standing Conference' provided opportunity for key agencies to discuss ways of working together to improve all aspects of local life in the county borough.
In attendance was the Leader of Caerphilly county borough council, Cllr Harry Andrews, who is also the Chair of the LSB. "This year's event was a great success and it's tremendous to see so many different partners from the private, public and voluntary sectors working together towards a common goal. The Standing Conference aims to encourage communities in the county borough to have greater involvement with both the council and local organisations, as we attempt to tackle key issues.
"The partnership work achieved so far has been very effective and it is vital that we continue to build on this with the implementation of a Single Integrated Plan. The Single Plan will free up resources, enhance existing collaboration between partnerships and stop complexity in services."
A total of 95 representatives from over 25 organisations attended the event. These key agencies included the Council, Welsh Government, Police, Health and Education.
The high-priority areas to be addressed were alcohol abuse, child poverty and the formulation and implementation of the Single Integrated Plan for Community Planning. Speakers at the event discussed the following issues: -
- Robert Hartshorn, Head of Public Protection, "Reducing the harm caused by alcohol – the next steps".
- Jon Burley, Superintendent, Gwent Police, "Tackling the impact of Poverty – a community centred approach".
- Howard Rees, Programme Manager for Partnership Development and Collaborative Improvement, "The Single Integrated Plan – the Caerphilly context".
Following the speeches, all attendees were given the opportunity to partake in a question and answer session and workshops based on how best to tackle the problems presented at the conference.
