>With all the excitement and adrenaline that Sport Caerphilly are lapping up from the Olympic Torch Relay coming through Caerphilly and then their Sports Village thereafter, the Sports Development team have been praised, after 94% of the county borough's schools registered for National School Sports Week (NSSW) in June.
At a recent all-Wales conference, Chair of Sport Wales, Professor Laura McAllister congratulated Caerphilly on their success to date and achievements on getting so many schools signed up for the annual NSSW in her keynote address.
Schools that have never registered in previous years have been inspired to do so by the hard working, dedicated and informative Sport Caerphilly Development Officers and the benefits of signing up are significant for all pupils not just within Caerphilly but also the UK.
Many events and activities will be taking place leading up and during NSSW, which will mainly be Olympic and Paralympic themed due the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
Many schools have got involved already by taking part in Mini Olympics, inter and intra Torch Relays and also dedicating their summer terms education programme through the Games itself.
Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Harry Andrews said, "This is a great opportunity for all schools within our county borough to be involved in such a wide variety of sporting activities leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond".
He continued, "The Sport Caerphilly team have done an excellent job in engaging schools and providing their support throughout. We are currently the leading local authority for the highest NSSW registrations and will have to ensure that we continue as leaders for 2012 and there after!"
National School Sport Week, which is delivered in partnership with Youth Sport Trust, will continue to encourage pupils to take part in more sport, try new Olympic and Paralympic Sports and live the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In 2011, over 4 million young people took part in Britain's biggest celebration of school sport.
