>Following an exciting day of auditions at Blackwood Miners' Institute last week 16 finalists have been selected to go head to head for the star prize at the final at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on Sunday 21st September at 6pm.
Among the acts put through to the final are a 26 year old trumpet player from Nelson, a group of 14 dancers from Fleur de Lys Amateur Dramatics and Musical Society, a stand up comedian from Ystrad Mynach as well as dancers, singers and musicians of all ages from across the county borough.
43 year old singer Mal Stone, from Bargoed, will be competing at the final against his daughters singing duo Bethan (19) & Hannah (16) who also impressed the judges with their singing ability. Will any members of the family walk away with the star prize?
Singing duo Matthew Oliver (15) and Kaysha Wilson (13) auditioned for the judges as individual singers but it was their duet of Amy Winehouse's You Know I'm No Good which secured them a place in the grand final.
The contest will be compered by one of Wales' favourite entertainers Owen Money and the contest will be judged by a panel including Red Dragon DJ Leigh Jones. The winner will receive a holiday prize, which is sponsored by Morgan Travel in Caerphilly.
Tickets for the final cost £6 and are available from the Blackwood Miners' Institute Box Office now on 01495 227206.
The competition is part of the council's 'Get Active' event, a new nine-day event that takes place between the 13-21 of September.
