Olympic themed literacy event kicks off!

    11 May 2012

Kicking off a week-long 'Literacy Olympics' event is a group of Caerphilly's youngest residents, the pupils of the Early Years setting, based in St James Primary School.

The youngsters aged between 2 and 3 years old will take part in a range of activities throughout the week starting on Monday 14th May. The planned activities are set around an Olympic theme and include cooking, physical activity, arts and play.

Sarah Mutch, Early Years Manager at Caerphilly County Borough Council said, "We are keen to ensure that children in their youngest stages of learning are engaged with literacy programmes. This Olympic inspired week is set to be great fun for everyone involved, we are pleased that our little learners have the opportunity to be apart of a wider programme that is the Literacy Olympics week."

The St James facility has been enjoying the benefits of the new Integrated Children's Centre. This Centre has been in situ for the past 8months and is primarily used for the Flying Start childcare provision and a range of health groups which include; breastfeeding support, baby clinic, Social Services groups and offers a space for training delivery. This multi-use site is home to many registered health professionals and acts as a central hub for the local community.
