Outstanding volunteers across the Caerphilly county borough who work tirelessly to help others have been honoured at a special awards ceremony.
This year's Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards, organised by the Council and GAVO, saw a wide range of heroes recognised for their dedication and hard work throughout the community.
An awards evening took place at Penallta House last week which saw the Mayor, Cllr Gaynor Oliver presenting special awards to winners in various categories. The overall winner, named as 'Supreme Volunteer', was Major Gill Jones MBE TD from Senghenydd. Gill has volunteered tirelessly for over 30 years as a caseworker for SAFFA Forces Help, Caerphilly where she has touched the lives of countless serving men, women, veterans and their families.

- Retired Senior Volunteer - Mary Gregory
- Community Chest Award - Chris Horswill/David Dyke (Cwmcarn Angling Club)
- New Volunteer - Gaynor Jones
- Young Volunteer - The Cast of 'Wrecked'
- Environmental Volunteer - Geoffrey Jones
- Fundraising Volunteer - Lisa Williams
- Inspirational Volunteer - Elizabeth Davies
- Practical Service Adult Group - Markham Committee
- New Volunteer Group - The Zone
William Jones of Caerphilly was also presented with a Millennium Volunteer certificate by GAVO, for completing over 200 hours of voluntary work with The British Red Cross and the Caerphilly Adult Disabled Swimming Club.
Mayor, Cllr Gaynor Oliver said, "These awards are a fantastic opportunity to thank all those people within the county borough who dedicate their lives to helping others. It was a pleasure to get the opportunity to recognise their inspirational efforts and formally thank them for all their outstanding hard work."
Campaign Newspapers and Gwent Police sponsored the event, and the organisers would like to thank them both for their continuing support.
