A man has been taken to court and ordered to pay a total of £175 for a littering offence in the Blackwood area of Caerphilly county borough.
Matthew Meyrick, age 30, of Commercial Street, Aberbargoed was initially given a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75, however as a result of non-payment of this fine, the matter was pursued through court.
The case was heard recently at Caerphilly Magistrates Court – the defendant attended court and represented himself, pleading guilty to the offence. He was ordered to pay a fine of £75.00, court costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge and was ordered to pay within 14 days.
Rob Hartshorn, Head of Public Protection said, "Caerphilly County Borough Council does not tolerate littering, whatever form it takes. There is no excuse for littering and those responsible will face consequences for their actions.
Where non-payment of a Fixed Penalty Notice occurs, we will pursue the matter through court without exception. Prosecutions such as this show will hopefully prove to a small minority that failing to take their social responsibilities seriously could cost them dearly."
