Officers from Caerphilly County Borough Council's Environmental Health team will be holding a series of Noise Pollution Awareness road shows from Monday 21st May as part of Noise Action Week.

Caerphilly County Borough Council were the first local authority in Wales to confirm their participation in the national awareness raising event, and this year will be focussing on neighbourhood noise - from barking dogs, to booming TVs and banging stereos.

The Environmental Health team will be hosting events in supermarket foyers in the area to provide advice to the public on how to address noise from neighbours, raising awareness of noise nuisance and promoting the services available to the public.

Residents will be able to access information leaflets, advice and useful contacts, and will be encouraged to sign a 'Be Good Neighbours and KEEP THE NOISE DOWN!' pledge, with those who sign up will be entered into a prize draw to win a family ticket for a Blackwood Miners Institute production.

Colouring competitions for children will also create a fun way to raise their understanding of noise nuisance.

Rob Hartshorn, Head of Public Protection said, "Between April 2011 and April 2012 we received 1358 neighbourhood noise complaints, which shows this is a significant problem for residents. By running these events we hope to encourage people to be considerate towards their neighbours and be aware of their own noise levels, and also to provide information for those who are affected by noise nuisance."

Events will run from 10-3pm each day at: -

    • Monday 21st May - Asda Blackwood
    • Wednesday 23rd May - Asda Caerphilly
    • Thursday 24th May - Sainsburys Pontllanfraith
    • Friday 25th May – Aldi Tir Y Berth
