Five parks in Caerphilly County Borough have been awarded the prestigious green flag award.
Three of the parks, Morgan Jones Park, Caerphilly, Waunfawr Park, Crosskeys and Nelson Wern Park have all held the prestigious green flag for several years, with Morgan Jones Park now achieving the high standard needed for seven years.
Two new additions were added to the green portfolio with Parc Cwm Darren near Deri and Cwmcarn Forest joining the elite green spaces.
The winning Urban Parks staff received their awards from the Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development, John Griffiths AM at the Royal Welsh Show.
Parc Cwm Darren and Cwmcarn Forest are the first country parks in the county borough to receive the Green Flag Award, which recognises well managed and maintained spaces.
Councillor David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services congratulated the staff, "These awards signpost our parks as some of the greatest in the country. The management of the parks ensures that not only are they beautiful green spaces for local wildlife to enjoy but residents too can delight in the exquisite green spaces, and many of our parks have even more to offer from educational and fun activities, glamping pods, prime fishing spots and guided tours."
Over three-quarters of the Caerphilly county borough is countryside. The council's Countryside and Landscape Service helps to look after these popular open spaces through landscape improvements, creating new habitats, ensuring trees are safe, monitoring and protecting wildlife and improving access.
