It is proposed that the new public library will be located within the existing worship space at both the Hanbury Road and upper gallery level. The library will be accessible from 2 entrances – one on Hanbury Road and the other from the new car park entrance – via a lift and stairs.

The entrance from Hanbury Road reuses the original central main chapel entrance and lobby. The layout of the facilities will be spacious, ordered and customer friendly. Within the main library, generous space is allocated for informative displays, gathering and the children’s library.
The majority of the extensive library stock will be located on the next level (Level 5) with the majority of the IT Facilities located within the Learning Centre.
This level includes a children’s story telling area, which will be located below the original central stained glass window. A child friendly space will be created which uses the raked seating. The proposal is to include a movable canopy over the story telling area to create a sense of intimacy, an important ingredient for successful story-telling.

A “teens” book collection is combined with a quiet reading and WI-FI area at the opposite end to the story-telling area. This section is located in the new extension behind the organ enclosure and, like the café, it is cantilevered out over the street and benefits from stunning views. This “teens” section includes provision for games consoles such as Wii’s and playstation.
