A Partnership approach

The proposals for the Hanbury Road Baptist Chapel are a joint partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council, United Welsh Housing Association, the chapel congregation and The Heads of the Valleys Programme.

United Welsh will drive the project forward and convert the chapel for its new uses, including the purchase of the property from the Trustees of Hanbury Road Baptist Chapel. When completed, the building will be leased to the Council. The process will be similar to the outstanding conversion, which United Welsh undertook of the former Bargoed Job Centre – transforming it into a Health Centre fit for the 21st Century.

Proposed elevation faced south

United Welsh Housing Association will transform the Baptist Chapel. They submitted their proposals in the Planning Application, which went before Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Planning Committee in September 2009. The securing of Planning Permission is only the first stage in the lengthy process for the redevelopment of the historic building. The building will also require Listed Building consent prior to the commencement of any work, reflecting its Grade 2* Listed status and ensuring that the integrity of this historic building is preserved for the future.

United Welsh have already secured funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Heads of the Valleys Programme towards the project and will be applying for further funding.
