Exciting plans have recently been unveiled for the redevelopment of the Baptist Chapel on Hanbury Road into a new library and community facility for Bargoed and the wider population. A new worship space will be created within the existing Sunday School Level.
The proposals are to adapt, and renovate the Hanbury Road Baptist Chapel, which lies at the heart of the historic core of the town centre. The Chapel is a Grade 2* listed building and is recognised by Cadw as one of the best examples of a building of its kind in Wales. This century old Chapel has much of the original detailing intact and well preserved and, with its classic architecture, is a landmark building on Bargoed’s main shopping street.
The public facility will become a key community building, which will be accessible to all and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant.
As part of the ongoing regeneration plans for Bargoed, the existing library has been demolished to pave the way for the new retail development plateau and to assist in creating the pedestrian linkage between Hanbury Square and the new development.

The relocated library is temporarily based in St Gwladys Church Hall in Church Place where all the usual facilities can be found, but on a smaller scale. One notable exception is the Family and Local History Resource Centre that has moved to temporary accommodation at the Winding House Museum in New Tredegar.
