Bargoed Park and Ride

Demand for Park and Ride facilities in Bargoed has increased following the introduction of Arriva Wales’ Standard Pattern Timetable. This increased the frequency of services from Bargoed to Cardiff from two to four trains per hour 90 Park and Ride spaces, including 5 Disabled Spaces, are now available at Bargoed's new Park & Ride facility. This new facility is located in the northern part of Bargoed with direct access from a roundabout on the eastern side of the A469 and Angel Way. This facility is free and will contribute to a more sustainable transport system. The scheme includes safe walking routes to the rail station and future bus station - with additional street lighting.

£1.5 million for the new facility was allocated from the European Regional Development Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government. Read the News story here. It is the first scheme in Wales that has been completed using Convergence Funding. This successful bid for European Convergence Funding was made by South East Wales Transport Alliance (Sewta) in conjunction with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

A plateau has been built at the northern end of Angel Way, for the new Park and Ride Facility. The construction of the plateau has reduced the overall footprint of the scheme and enabled the maximum number of car parking spaces to be created in this valley location. The structure has again used material that has been sourced from the former Bargoed Colliery tip.
The new scheme was completed in Autumn 2009.
