By Road

If travelling in an easterly direction on the M4, exit at junction 32 and follow the A470 north towards Merthyr Tydfil. After approximately 11 miles, at a large roundabout, turn right and follow the A472 to Ystrad Mynach. Here take the A469 to Bargoed.

Bargoed is also easily accessible from the A465 Heads of the Valleys road, which runs East/West in the north of the Caerphilly County Borough. Take the A469 southwards through Rhymney to Bargoed.

A new 2.2 kms road, Angel Way, runs parallel to the town along the valley floor. This is part of the Greater Bargoed Community Regeneration Scheme. This road includes 1 km of key cross-valley link and an elegant elevated viaduct, the Bargoed Newydd Viaduct to access the new retail/leisure plateau and town centre. There is a new point of entry into the town from the Bargoed Newydd Viaduct via a roundabout on the Angel Way road.

The new road has the following key features:

  • 2.2 kms in length with 1 Km of cross valley links
  • There are 6 new interchanges with the existing road network
  • 5 new roundabouts.

The Rhymney River Bridge: 130 metres bridge, which has a graceful 4 span design to suit is location in a country park. It reaches a full height of 24 metres above the valley floor where it crosses over the Rhymney River.
Bargoed Newydd Viaduct: The 200 metres viaduct traverses the valley from Angel Way across to the new retail plateau. This curving structure comprises 3 metres deep beams supported on circular columns.
