A new sustainable housing development has recently been completed at the former Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni site at Park Crescent. The United Welsh Housing Association (UWHA) has provided 28 new homes, which are available to rent in an innovative social housing arrangement. The scheme will comprise 21 three bedroom properties, 1 four bedroom property and 6 one bedroom properties and has been designed by architects Davies, Llewelyn and Jones. This scheme has been so successful that it is already fully occupied and oversubscribed.
The scheme has scooped a top housing award from the Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru.

Park Crescent Houses
Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government have supported the £3 million Park Crescent scheme with Social Housing Grant funding to deliver affordable high spec new homes.
Funding from the Heads of the Valleys Programme has been used to incorporate energy efficient and sustainable features into the properties. These micro renewables include rainwater harvesting and solar powered hot water and under floor heating.

During the construction, United Welsh has provided opportunities for ten local trainees to learn new skills on the construction site. The scheme at Upper Wood Street provided a range of opportunities for construction trainees and most of the trainees have since secured full time employment. Furthermore, the scheme has also provided training and employment for a number of placements working with mainenance contractors.
