SPONSORING 'THE BIG CHEESE'
The Big Cheese is rapidly becoming a ‘must see’ attraction within the county borough from visitors near and far. Set in the shadows of Europe’s second largest Castle, The Big Cheese is a mixture of historical and contemporary street entertainment, living history encampments, funfair, live music and much more. Portraying the history, heritage and culture of Caerphilly, last year’s event attracted over 70,000 people from across the country.
Visitor numbers
One of the biggest draws of the weekend is the fact that it is a free event and with over 80,000 people expected at the 2009 event, a bigger entertainment programme is already being planned.
Excellence
For an event that is now in its 12th year, its success has been recognised by the Wales Tourist Board, short listing The Big Cheese for its Welsh Event of the Year award at its annual Tourism Awards Ceremony. In 2005 the event was also voted one of Europe’s top 50 best local festivities.
Research
From research carried out, we know that the event attracts a significant share of the family audience with 60% of visitors travelling as part of a family group and 42% of all visitors aged between 35 and 54. At the socio-economic level the event appeals to all sectors of the community attracting 50% ABC 1’s and 50% C 2DE’s.
In terms of customer satisfaction 98% of respondents rated the event either enjoyable or very enjoyable, a figure that reflects the good will and positive feeling generated by the event.
Promotion
The Big Cheese is advertised extensively in order to reach our target audiences. Again, our research indicates 63% of visitors came to the event as a consequence of the various communicational methods employed as part of the marketing strategy and advertising proposal.
