CASTLE ARENA
Circus Whiz
Saturday 30 & Sunday 31 July
11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm
Set in a fun packed inflatable circus ring with two circus skills workshop entertainers. Learn how to juggle balls, clubs, diablos & devil sticks; spin a plate or a western spinning rope; balance on pedal-gos, cup & fun stilts; hula hoop; catch cups & balls, spoons, rings and olympic ribbons.
The Statue
Saturday 30 & Sunday 31 July - 12pm, 2pm, 4pm
The Statue and The Clown is something a little bit different - a silent performer whose act contains some unique elements. Thirteen years of experience performing as a living statue, mime artist, clown, actor, and performance artist.
BTM Youth Band

GREAT HALL ENTERTAINMENT
There will be activities running to promote the cultural Olympiad at the Great Hall of the Castle. The activities will include the screening of a film made with schools from the Islwyn area, workshops in costume and mask making on Saturday and Sunday morning leading to a parade at 2.00pm on Sunday.
The parade will start form the entrance to the left of the siege engines and lead into the main courtyard fronted by a Samba group. Singers will appear on the ramparts to welcome them as they arrive in the courtyard area.
The County Youth Theatre will also be present on Saturday carrying out improvised performances with the public around the site.
A dome for workshops activities will be located in the castle grounds allowing the public to develop and add their ideas to the decoration of the outside of the dome.
CYT perform Shakespeare's Ghosts (appartments)

Caerphilly County Youth Theatre have devised a performance: Shakespeare's Ghosts' that introduces characters from various plays from comedy to tradegy. The scene is set at a banquet table, where seated are various ghosts from Shakespeare. The castle ruins provide an excellent site for this entertaining experimental theatre piece.
Flags and Dome decoration with Malarky (Dome)

Ceramics workshop with Jo Clifford

Saturday morning come and create cauldrons and beakers, using pinch pot and coil techniques. Saturday afternoon create Gargoyles and hunky punks. Sunday sessions involve chivalry, heraldic shields and protective talismans. All using self hardening clay so you can take home your art work.
Textile workshop with Becky Adams

Watch the birdy! Come join textile artist Becky Adams and make your very own beautiful decorative birdy inspired by the many birds that hop about the castle. Lots of fun, all materials provided, all ages and abilities most welcome.

Saturday: Land Stories; a thousand threaded whispers like streams, in time shapes the land Capture ribbons of spoken words that rise from the castle walls and blow all around us on silk in print blocks, script, stamps and point.
Sunday: Bring our land stories to life and showcase through movement around the castle grounds.
Corn Dolly workshop with Peter Oakley
Saturday 30 July - 11am-2pm
Witness the traditional Craft of Corn Dolly Making - and have a go yourself. Once a commonplace country craft, corn dolliesare small items made by weaving together the stems of wheat straw. Peter Oakley and some new learners from Trecennydd will show you how at the Big Cheese Festival, as part of the Awen project/Cultural Olympiad.
Literature workshop with Mike Church
Saturday 30 July - 11.30am-1pm & 2pm-3.30pm
TV and radio performance poet Mike Church will entertain and entrall the audience through a mixture of performance and comedic poetry. Following his performance, people of all ages and abilities can take part in a free fun and informal poetry workshop to explore their creative side.

Specially made for the Cultural Olymnpiad and AWEN project. Inspired by the Castle and made by young people from the Islwyn area. This is the first ever screening of 'My Dead Love'. Made in conjunction with ZoomCymru.
Samba band workshop
Sunday 31 July - 11am-2pm
A demonstration of Samba by the Caerphilly Samba Band, followed by a chance to get involved, practise your rhythms and join our carnival procession.
Community Choir performance
Sunday 31 July - 2.50pm (starts inner ward, ends in great hall)
The community Choir will be singing their especially written composition 'The Green Lady' amongst others.
