Countryside marquee

You're invited to the ambassadors party being held in the countryside marquee. Find out why you should be proud of your local countryside and have a go at our countryside crafts. Meet the Rangers who help manage it. They will be leading fun games and activities throughout the day helping you to get the most out of a visit to the countryside. Prizes to be won and freebies to be collected. You can relax in the countryside picnic site next door, away from the hustle and bustle of the main site. Three quarters of the county borough is countryside - discover Caerphilly and be an ambassador for you natural environment.

Animals will be on display for visitors to look at, have photographs with and to learn about. This years exhibitors include Tropical Inc who have an array of reptiles, parrots and unusual species, Festival Park Owl Sanctuary with a display of birds and owls and The International Tortoise Association with their display of tortoises.

Craft marquee

In the demonstration craft marquee is a host of craftspeople exhibiting and working with their craft. There will be leatherwork demo’s, woodturning and carving, stained glass, jewellery, potters and spinners and many more.

Caerphilly's Fostering Service will be at the Big Cheese to raise the awareness of the shortage of Foster Carers in Caerphilly.  Please come along and have a chat with us!  We are especially keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in fostering children over the age of 10. Staff from the team and foster carers will be available to talk to anyone who would like some more information about fostering, and information packs will be available for people to take home.

Housing Choices Roadshow

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Housing Choices roadshow will be taking a slice of The Big Cheese when it rolls up to the annual event.

The roadshow will be at The Big Cheese on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July before touring the county borough throughout the summer giving the council’s tenants the opportunity to see exactly what the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) looks like - and what the council’s transfer proposal could mean for them.

The roadshow forms part of the council’s consultation with its tenants on a proposal to transfer its homes to a new, independent not-for-profit Community Housing Mutual housing organisation set up by the council, called Castell Mynydd. Transfer can only go ahead if the majority of tenants who vote, vote in favour of the proposal. Nathan Wyburn reached the semi final rounds of this years Britians Got Talent after creating a portrait of Michael Mcintyre with Marmite on Toast. Nathan has worked with all sorts of unusual mediums such as Marmite, Ketchups, Curry, Candles and even snow.

Visitors and residents will have the opportunity to visit the trailer, ask questions and seek advise on Caerphilly's waste collection services.  The team will also be available to deal with enquiries and offer guidance.

Road Safety (CCBC) marquee

The Caerphilly County Borough Council Road Safety Team are looking forward to promoting an endless lists of initiatives that are being carried out within our schools to include Kerb craft, School Travel Plans, Walking Bus and Mrs Tufty.

There will be an opportunity to speak with the team regarding Child Seatbelt Safety and Road Safety issues. We also have a Faulty Bike Quiz, Children's Traffic Club, Children's Painting Corner, Adults and Children's Cycle Helmets for sale at £5 approx, Face Painting, Badge Making, Leaflets, Gifts, Prizes and the chance to enter a free competition to win a mountain bike worth £200. We are situated by the music tent, everybody welcome.
