Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra present
Michael Bell - Conductor
Steffan Morris - Cello
Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra return with this celebration of the musical heritage of London. The pomp and pageantry is represented by Walton's Orb & Sceptre, first performed at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in 1953.
The sights and sounds of London shine through Eric Coates London Suite, with its famous Knightsbridge March (signature tune of radio's In Town Tonight), and CPO marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Ralph Vaughan Williams with a performance of one of his best-loved works, A London Symphony. London has hosted many musical premieres but none is more famous than Elgar's Cello Concerto.
Tonight's soloist is Neath-born Steffan Morris, one of Wales’ most gifted cellists, currently studying at the renowned Menuhin School.
