The Council's business development team is leading by example and has secured a prestigious award, which recognises environmental best practice in business. Team member and
Business Environment Co-ordinator, Melanie Walsh, works with local businesses to encourage them to commit to environmental improvements and gain acknowledgment for their achievements through the Green Dragon Standard. She is the key strand in the programme and is keen for the team at Tredomen Business & Technology Centre to set a good example to local businesses.
"With power prices already rising, coupled with the need for a major reduction in CO 2 emissions, it is important that all businesses make a commitment to environmental best practice. It can not only save them money in the long term, but it will also help the environment. The Council currently spends around £3.1 million on energy and water for its buildings and has a target of using 50% of its energy from a renewable source by the 2010. Our team achieving Green Dragon Level 2 is a small but very positive step towards those targets," said Melanie Walsh.
This European Objective 1 project is supported by the Council, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Welsh Development Agency, Groundwork Wales and Arena Network.
