Hengoed
(hen+coed)
The name literally means 'old wood'. The village is named
after Hengoed Hall, a large house in the area though interestingly,
maps from 1886 show that Hengoed Hall was to the north of the settlement
of Cefn Hengoed whereas by today, Cefn Hengoed lies above and to the
north of modern-day Hengoed.
