Community Planning is about bringing together a whole range of local organisations and people to work together to improve the quality of life for residents of the county borough and bring about lasting improvements for citizens.
Working together, the council, the police, local health board, voluntary organisations, statutory agencies, community groups and local residents developed the Caerphilly County Borough Community Strategy – "Community Planning in Action". The strategy sets out a 15-20 year vision for a better county borough and identifies objectives to support partnership working towards achieving that vision.
The Strategy has been developed with the overarching principles of equality of opportunity for all where people's diversity is fully respected, and sustainability through achieving quality of life improvements that last for future generations. It has four main themes:
Regeneration – where we can find opportunities for (paid and unpaid) work that we find rewarding
Education for Life – where we can develop our range of interests, knowledge and activities
Health, Social Care and Wellbeing – where we can lead a full, healthy life and get treatment, support and care as and when required
Living Environment – where we like to live and want to stay and make a home
There is a strategic partnership and strategic coordinator for each theme responsible for implementing the strategy and they work with a number of cross cutting partnerships – Children and Young People's Framework Partnership, 50+ Positive Action Partnership, Safer Caerphilly Partnership for example. There are close working links between the partnerships and the voluntary sector and community partnerships working on local projects across the county borough.
In 2009 a review was undertaken of the Community Strategy. The review highlighted achievements and priorities for the next four years and lessons learnt from the review process.
