Parc Penallta

Parc Penallta Leaflet

Carved from a former coal tip, Penallta offers the visitor spectacular views across the county borough from the high point observatory. You won’t be able to miss ‘Sultan’ the pit pony, the UK’s largest figurative earth sculpture. Three waymarked trails guide visitors though woodland and grasslands where Skylarks and Lapwings breed. Take a stroll through Penallta Marsh, dotted with anthills and see if you can spot the butterflies or enjoy the boardwalk and willow tunnel in the wetlands area. Punctuated with sculptures, there is always a surprise around the corner at Penallta. Cyclists can also get onto Route 47 of the National Cycle Network and cycle in safety to Sirhowy Valley Country Park in the East or join up with the Taff Trail in the West. There is a small education / visitor centre with toilets for use by visiting school groups. Please call for details.
