Ynys Hywel Farm
Ynys Hywel Farm is a working hill farm, owned and run by the
Countryside and Landscape Service. Situated in the heart of
the Sirhowy
Valley Country Park its 39 acres (16 hectares)
are home to Welsh Black and Belted Galloway cattle, Badger-faced
sheep, Tamworth pigs and a variety of chickens and ducks.
The farm is managed with biodiversity in mind; hedges planted
and dry-stone walls rebuilt. Graig
Goch woodland a local nature reserve with a springtime bluebell
extravaganza is situated next to the farm.
Schools and groups can visit the farm and experience the workings of a real farm where animals are reared for food. Ynys Hywel Farm has a fully equipped education room, toilets, and hand and welly washing facilities. An education pack has been prepared to support a visit to Ynys Hywel Farm.
