Penallta Kite Festival
The heavens were full of the weird and wonderful at Parc Penallta on the 30th September.
Over 3,500 people descended on the Park to witness a unique spectacle taking place over the South Wales Valleys. Everyone enjoyed watching the hundreds of kites being flown by demonstrators, both local enthusiasts and from as far afield as South Africa.
The kite fliers wowed the crowds with their skills, performing amazing stunts and unbelievable synchronised flights. The kites themselves were extraordinary including a giant Panda, a massive Gecko, Cupid and a Manta Ray! There were plenty of traditional kites too, and everyone was free to have a go at making their own in the display workshop. Even the feathered variety made an appearance with a special display flight from a pair of Red Kites.
As the sun set and the day became night, the fun didn’t stop, with the skies once again becoming alive with kites dancing to the sound of inspiring music and lit by spot lights. This impressive display was a fitting end to a fantastic day that was enjoyed by all.
