Health Walk in Penallta Country Park

31.10.07

Help your heart

Heart disease is the biggest killer in the country. In Wales around 30 people die from heart disease every day.

On the 21st of October in Penallta Country Park, Healthy walkers from Caerphilly Borough donned some comfortable footwear to raise some money for the British Heart Foundation.

Glorious sunshine greeted the 35 walkers on a cool, crisp, autumnal day. With three walks being offered, all fitness levels and abilities were catered for. Some walkers tackled the beginner walk (10-20minutes), whilst others had a go at the longer routes (30-60minutes).

Not only did all the walkers enjoy the fantastic scenery and beauty within the country park, but they also managed to raise over £900 for a very worthy cause.

Brian Begg, Healthy walking Coordinator for Caerphilly, said, “the majority of the walkers today have had some dealings with heart disease throughout their lives and it is testament to them that such a small group of walkers can raise such a large amount of money”

John Prosser said “We should see more of these sorts of manageable sponsored walks, so those who aren’t as fit can do their bit to raise a some money for a good cause.”

There are plans a foot for another sponsored walk next year!

In the mean time if anyone fancies coming on a healthy walk, which are run in various communities across the borough, then get in touch with Brian Begg on 07788547350 or check out our Healthy Walks page for more information.
