Countryside Oscars for local businesses

Farmers, hoteliers, manufacturers and play workers recently gathered to celebrate thirty successful rural business projects from across Caerphilly county borough.

Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel and Spa was the venue for a glittering awards lunch for local rural businesses benefitting from the European Objective One Community Planning Key Funds, administered by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Ten rural businesses were honoured as part of the Derwen Awards, under a range of categories including Rural Innovation, Sustainability and Contribution to Community Life.

The award winners were presented with cast iron plaques made by artist Rubin Eynon from an original design by Dave Penberthy.

Winners include an Argoed violinmaker, a woodland management project in Rudry and a mobile sheep shower service from Abercarn.
